Central Ohio power outages ‘the worst in more than 10 years,’ AEP says

Central Ohio faced its most extensive power outage in more than a decade after strong winds swept through the region March 13, leaving tens of thousands without electricity. AEP Ohio said in a message to customers on March 14 that “damage to electric infrastructure across our region is the worst in more than 10 years.” More than 2,700 workers were in the field repairing lines and equipment, as the utility company pledged to continue efforts until all customers have power.

Texas oil refinery explosion sends smoke into air, residents advised to shelter in place

Residents of a Texas city were urged to shelter in place following an explosion and fire at a Valero oil refinery that sent massive plumes of smoke billowing into the air. The incident happened March 23 at Valero’s Port Arthur Refinery, which is located about 90 miles east of Houston and processes around 435,000 barrels per day. The company says about 770 employees work at the site, but there were no injuries. Port Arthur advised residents who live in the areas of Stillwell Boulevard West to South of Highway 73, Sabine Pass and Pleasure Island to adhere to an "immediate shelter in place."

Trump Administration to shutter historic Border Road between Montana and Alberta

The U.S. Government will close a nearly nine-mile stretch of road from July 1 along its border that runs between Montana and Alberta, citing security concerns. The closure of the stretch, commonly referred to as Border Road, will end more than eight decades of informal crossings between farming communities on each side of the border. The Trump Administration cites a rise in irregular migration and drug smuggling for the decision.

LaGuardia crash update: NTSB says no alert issued before crash

Federal investigators said New York’s LaGuardia Airport runway alerting system did not issue a warning before an Air Canada Express jet landing on March 22 struck a Port Authority fire truck, killing the two pilots and injuring dozens, as operations partially resumed and a key runway remained closed for days of on‑scene work, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and airport officials.
